Travailiant Rising w/ Kevin J. Anderson

The Garenthians, giant space kaiju, attacked without mercy, leaving Earth’s population and its cities ravaged. Finally, mammoth mechanical warriors called Decimators are able to turn the tide and save humanity!

Only, this is not that story…

Harold Hodges is angry. So angry, that upon another arrest for assault, he’s given a choice: he can either clean up toxic Garenthian residue—an almost certain death sentence—or he can enter Travailiant Therapy.  Choosing the better option, Harold pilots a decommissioned, unarmed Decimator, tasked with the reclamation of Earth’s uninhabitable metropolises. His A.I. therapist, T.A.I.T., guides Harold’s aggression in a constructive…or better put, destructive way.  However, what the judges and T.A.I.T didn’t understand about Harold, before putting him inside a Travailiant mech, is that he has a LOT OF ISSUES  and they just might backfire and destroy not just our skeletal cities, but Harold himself.

Welcome to the post-apocalyptic world of Travailiant Rising!

Welcome to the Kickstarter for Travailiant Rising Issue One!

This is the first in a multi-issue series. In the pages of this book, you’ll discover a shattered society brought about by giant space kaiju, and the cleanup left behind for the survivors. You’ll meet a man, on his very last chance to make good, controlling a decommissioned mech, bent on reclaiming Earth’s cities. And you’ll explore with him the effects of PTSD, anger left unchecked, and survivor’s guilt until all that’s left is his rage.

But mostly, you’ll get to enjoy fantastic mech robot action!

The Decimators:

Described by some as an otuku’s fever dream, the war mech was finally able to balance and eventually win the war against the invading space kaiju! Versatile, the Decimators come armed with a variety of weapons designed to kick those space squid off our planet!

The Garenthians:

What we first took to be shooting stars turned into nothing anyone had wished for. Their single purpose was to destroy all of humanity, but for what purpose, the biggest brains couldn’t reason. They come in many forms, each nastier than the next. Killing them isn’t even the worst thing, as they bleed a toxic sludge worse than nuclear waste. They may be gone, but they almost took us with them.

The Travailiant:

As new versions of the Decimators were produced, the old ones were mothballed. Now, they are being disarmed and recommissioned with a new purpose–Healing our survivors. Piloted by specially chosen people struggling with PTSD, they work through their trauma guided by A.I. therapists. Using uninhabitable cities like giant rage rooms, the hope is they’ll heal our world while they heal themselves.
