Over my career as an author, most of you know, I’ve struggled to finish novels. Since She Murdered Me with Science came out in 2008, I have only completed three, and one of those was a mosaic novel (Drowned Horse Chronicle) and one was a serialized novel (The Soul Changers), and one, a MG, still circulating. I love writing novels, I do, but life conspires against me with tragedies or health issues or car accidents, etc. Thus, I tend to do more short fiction work which continues to sell.
I have, however, also written several novellas and novelettes, some which have been published, others still seeking homes. Last night, I completed another, a media tie-in, which one of my Beta readers is looking at now, before I turn into the publisher. This was the result of the two marathon writing sessions over Sun/Mon night. Tonight, I revised what I’d written then, so not nearly as long.
I also also, just to be clear, working on several novels. One, Drowned Horse Chronicle Volume 2, that I hope to complete over the summer. The next is a dark fantasy YA co-authored with my cousin. Another is a cozy murder mystery set around the world of beach volleyball, co-authored with a former pro volleyball player. The last is a pulp sci-fi adventure being co-authored with another media tie-in author.
In addition, I have at least one sci-fi anthology that’s set in a famous author’s well-known universe. I have to write a bible for that first.
Again, all of these would already be farther along had my health not take a turn over the last several years. Herculean efforts have been taken to fix my sleep disorder, with few tangible results. But these last several nights have shown, despite the cost, I can do marathon sessions again, and I hope to get caught up over the next year, so I can start 2026 with a fresh slate.
