To Whom It May Concern:

I highly recommend David Boop to teach writing. I have never met someone so willing and eager to teach. I found David simply through a Google search for “Writers in Denver” and his name came up. I contacted him to see if he would help with a school project that required 15 hours of professional help for the semester.  He gladly volunteered and, more surprisingly, he mistakenly thought I needed him for 15 hours per week, and he still said yes. He told me that he was excited to gain experience teaching, and I think that shows that he is constantly striving to become a better teacher.

We didn’t end up working 15 hours a week, but he pushed me to do a lot more than what was required. He taught me about elevator pitches, beat structure, and the hero’s journey. He mainly would edit and critique my writing and then discuss it with me. He offered a lot of interesting perspectives, and he did a great job pointing out the flaws in my writing. I always felt like he knew what he was talking about. Every time I would ask him a question, I’d get hit with a tidal wave of information. He would answer my question, would back it up with various examples, and then he would start listing books that pertain to the topic so that I could further research it.

By the end of the semester, I had completed the first chapter of my book, which is incredible for me because I started with no experience in fiction writing and was far from being a natural. In fact, I am dyslexic. He elevated my writing to a whole new level, and now I feel much more confident that I could write a book.

To whom it may concern,

I’m writing this on behalf of David Boop, who has been a mentor to me as I developed as a writer. I was eighteen when I met Dave. He discovered I liked to write, so he promptly invited me to his writer’s group. While attending the group, Dave pushed my skills beyond measure. A strong and developing writer himself, he taught me how to evaluate, proofread, reword, punctuate and, when necessary, completely rewrite my work.

Dave was very good at jumping the age gap of over fifteen years between he and I. It was tremendously beneficial as he reached down to the world of a high school student and helped me where I was at. I also admire Dave’s ability to constructively criticize. While working with Dave, he always told me what needed to be improved with my writing in a non-offensive way. Don’t get me wrong. He didn’t just simply say “good job”, he always said exactly what I needed to hear even if it meant throwing the version of the piece I was writing out the door and completely start from scratch. He always did it in a way that helped me understand how to improve my writing, and I always remembered leaving the writer’s group with confidence that the next version of my work would be better than the last.

In conclusion, I would like to recommend Dave for this job. From first hand experience, I know Dave would be phenomenal at promoting writing to kids. He has inspired me to push myself in every aspect of my writing. I know he will bring new working ideas to the table, which will invite kids into the wonderful world of literacy.

Sincerely,
